Information about the Pomchi

PomchiDescription:

This small lap dog is called a Pomchi and it is a cross between the Pomeranian and the Chihuahua.  Other names for this dog are the Chi-Pom, Chiranian and the Pomahuahua.   This dog is not officially recognized as a breed by purebred organizations because it is a mixed breed dog, however, the American Canine Hybrid Club do classify it as its own breed.  This dog can either have a single or a double coat depending on whether it has more Chihuahua or Pomeranian content.  Generally the topcoat of the Pomchi is soft and full.  There are variations in the coats’ length and they can be either long or short depending on the parentage.  The typical Pomchi dog has a rounder head with a narrow muzzle.  Their eyes are large and round and of a dark color.  Their ears typically are pointed and stand erect which it takes from the Chihuahua.

Learn about the Chihuahua Dachshund mix aka the Cheweenie

Chihuahua Dachshund mixDescription:
The Chihuahua Dachshund mix is more commonly known as the Cheweenie in breeding circles. Other lesser known names for it include the Mexican hotdog, Chiweeni and the Chiwi. This is a small dog of a stocky stature with shorter legs and a slightly elongated body. Their distinct ears are large and bat-like that either stand erect or flop downwards. A Cheenie’s eyes are generally large and their foreheads are wrinkled giving it a frowning appearance.

The coat of the Chiweenie can differ dramatically from dog to dog and it can go from short and bristly to longer and silky. Both Chihuahuas and Dachshunds can either have long or short coats of different textures so it depends on the parentage as to what kind of coat the Chiweenie puppy will have. Chiweenies, just like their parentage, can come in a number of different colors; however, the most common colors are tan, brown or black.

All About the Chorkie – The Yorkie Chihuahua mix

Yorkie Chihuahua mixDescription:
The small Chorkie is a mix between the Yorkshire terrier (Yorkies) and the Chihuahua. The popularity of this cute much loved dog surged during the 90s when the phenomenon of small dogs, especially Chihuahuas took off. The Chorkie has a claim to fame and was the much coveted dog face of the popular fast food chain Taco Bell, since then very few people have been able to resist its sweet tiny face with big eyes and a distinctly long tongue.

Depending on its parents the Chorkie can be different sizes. It can be a tall leggy dog or it could have shorter legs like the Yorkshire terrier. They have a distinct fluffy coat and obvious, usually lighter colored eyebrows. These teacup dogs come in a variety of colors and can be red, gray, brown or black with some even changing their color with each season. As these dogs grow older the longer hair around the muzzle begins to gray. These are popular toy dogs and a favorite ‘purse’ dog despite their scruffy Yorkie appearance.

Learn about the Shih Tzu Chihuahua Mix

Shih Tzu Chihuahua MixDescription:
The Shih Tzu Chihuahua mix is more commonly known as the Shi Chi among dog breeders and it is considered to be a ‘designer’ dog.

The coat of this can vary depending on the dominant dog it is bred with. It sometimes can take the short coat of the Chihuahua and sometimes it can have a longer, wavier hair, however, more often than not it has a combination of the two dogs’ coats. These dogs have shorter undercoats and medium to long topcoats that are wavy and soft. The Shih Tzu Chihuahua mix generally has a rounder head, which is not too dissimilar to that of the Chihuahua. Its ears can be different shapes depending on which side it takes after more and they can be either pricked up or hang down against its face. The Shi Chi dog comes in a variety of colors depending on its parents, but the most common coat color is a white base with tan markings. Because of the size and delicacy of these dogs, it is not ideal to have them when the children are really young as the child’s natural curiosity could in turn injure them.
